Short Supply of Meds
Why Have I Been Given a Shorter Supply of My Medicines?
While repeating medication without seeing the doctor is convenient for patients, we still must make sure you are using your medications safely. GPs are responsible for all prescribing decisions they make and must follow the GMC guidance for good practice in prescribing. Each patient and medication request is reviewed individually, and GPs can only prescribe medicine when they have adequate and up-to-date knowledge of your health.
- Regular Reviews – Most patients need at least one annual review, but some need more frequent checks.
- Health & Safety Checks – Before prescribing, the doctor checks test results, side effects, medication safety, and whether it is still working for you.
- Some Medicines Need Extra Monitoring – Certain medications require closer checks to prevent harm.
- Your Responsibility – To get prescriptions on time, you must attend reviews and complete tests when asked.
We understand this takes time, but it’s important for your health. Thank you for working with us.
